Mission and Ethos
Mission statement
Our mission is to provide a safe and stimulating environment for both children and families using our service. Our aim is to ensure that every child has the best possible start in life. We promote this by providing equal access to opportunities and experiences in order for children to learn to their full potential. Everyone is welcome to our service and we respect and value children and families from all ethnic groups. We work within the ‘Every Child Matters Framework’ outcomes:
- Be healthy
- Stay safe
- Enjoy and achieve
- Make positive contribution
- Enjoy economic well-being
We promote children to learn through play. Play is the most important way a child learns and develops basic skills for positive lifelong learning. Through play children have opportunities to develop a variety of different developmental and learning strategies, to practise and consolidate new skills in an enjoyable way, and they have opportunities for experiencing their world through using their own initiative.
Our aim is to work with parents as partners. Parents are the first educators of their children are the people who know their children best. We welcome parents and/or carers to contribute either verbally or written with their suggestions or recommendations. This can be directly to staff, or through their children’s profile books.
Ethos and Values
The ethos of the Children’s Centre is to provide high quality standard of childcare and education in an environment that is safe, warm, positive and stimulating for all children. We will strive to fulfil the potentials for every child and their families with dignity.
- We welcome children from different cultural backgrounds, and encourage children to respect the cultural values and beliefs of others, including children, parents and practitioners.
- We promote anti-discriminatory practices.
- Our environment promotes enthusiasm for learning and we empower children to learn new skills.
- We encourage children to develop self-confidence and become independent learners.
- We encourage children to express themselves freely and co-operatively and to be spontaneous.
- We scaffold children’s learning.
- We promote good health and hygiene.
- Mostly importantly we ensure children and their families have positive experience at Jagonari.
We implement a key person system, which is crucial in helping the children to feel safe and secure in their environment, and also for recording children’s’ individual developments. We encourage and support all children in developing their potential at their own pace, through their own interests. Our planning cycle enables us to ensure a wide range of activities are planned to meet the needs of each individual child. This links to the Early Years Foundation Stage national curriculum and the Early Learning Goals within it. The Early Learning Goals aim to help educators plan appropriate learning experiences for the children. The six areas of the Early Learning Goals cover;
- Communication language and literacy,
- Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy ,
- Knowledge and understanding of the world,
- Physical development,
- Creative development
- Personal, social and emotional development.
